Greater Jakarta: BPOM raids illegal cosmetics factory
The Jakarta chapter of the Food and Drug Monitoring Agency (BPOM) raided on Tuesday a factory at Blok JJ No. 43, Duta Harapan Indah Residence in Kapuk Muara, North Jakarta, for allegedly producing illegal cosmetics.
The officers confiscated 29 boxes packed with, among other things, bath soaps, scented soaps and whitening soaps.
“All confiscated products have no distribution licenses from the BPOM and they [the suspects] have put well-known brands on their packages, especially the soaps,” head of the Jakarta chapter of the BPOM Dewi Prawitasari said on Tuesday as quoted by kompas.com.
She added that her subordinates were testing the ingredients of the products that allegedly used harmful coloring substances.
The factory owner, identified as WK, 40, was arrested for violating Law No. 36/2009 on health that carried a maximum 15 years of imprisonment and Rp 15 billion (US$1.16 million) in fines.
